Covering words from across the English-speaking world, the second edition of the Oxford English Dictionary is now available online from James C. Kirkpatrick Library. Searchable by various fields, this historical dictionary groups the various senses of a word in chronological order along with quotation evidence, and it also gives the word’s etymology and pronunciation. The OED is updated quarterly with at least 2,500 new and revised entries. As a print edition it is in 20 volumes, which are available in the library.
