Reference Service Improvements
There are some exciting new changes in the library reference area that reflect an ongoing commitment to increased use of electronic resources. Library Services has recently subscribed to two online indexes, and it has upgraded and increased the number of its Internet-accessible machines.
The library is pleased to offer full-text magazine and journal articles on computers across campus. World Wide Web access to two SearchBank products, Expanded Academic ASAP and Business and Company ASAP has been purchased. These new products replace the CD-ROM products Proquest Periodicals Abstracts and ABI/INFORM.
Expanded Academic ASAP indexes 1,580 magazines and journals, with full-text access to 750 titles. The sciences, social sciences, humanities, and current events are represented. Business and Industry ASAP indexes 1,000 business-related magazines and journals with full-text access to 460 titles. It also contains directory-type information on over 150,000 private and public companies. Both indexes go back to January 1995, with additional access to a backfile that covers 1980-1994.
These products join EBSCOhost in offering full-text articles online. SearchBank and EBSCOhost services complement each other in offering a wide range of magazines, journals and newspapers.
With this new movement toward Internet accessible databases, the reference area has seen and will continue to see great improvements in the number and processing speed of its computers. Over the next few months expect to see the number of new Internet machines increase significantly.
