Education Resources

  • Ben's Guide to the U.S. Government for Kids--built by the Government Printing Office, this site provides access to educational government resources in four grade ranges: K-2, 3-5, 6-8- and 9-12. Kids can learn how a bill becomes a law, visit other government web sites for kids, play games, and work interactively with U.S. government information.

  • No Child Left Behind: Reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Text of the Law:  P.L.107-110 (H.R.1)

  • FREE--Federal Resources for Educational Excellence One-stop web site of federal resources for teaching and learning from the U.S. Department of Education. "Searches and Subjects" is a great place to begin exploring this site.

  • ERIC--"The ERIC collection of more than 475,000 educational documents gives users access to a wealth of information on a variety of educational subjects. Because ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center) contains so much information for both researchers and practitioners, including hard-to-find resources, it is considered the education collection of choice for academic libraries and teacher resource centers."

  •  Link to the ERIC database through EbscoHost. Access is limited to UCM students, faculty, and staff. Off-campus acess requires User ID and PIN.

    • ERIC ThesaurusIndex of descriptors used in the ERIC database

    • GEM, the Gateway to Educational Materials--This site provides a great search mechanism for finding high quality educational materials, including lesson plans, activities, and projects from GEM Consortium member sites. It also lets you browse its collections by keyword and subject.

  • Charter Schools

  • National Center for Education Statistics--Access to statistics, educational research resources, and information about your school or college.

  • Students.gov--U.S. Government - wide initiative to deliver electronic services from government agencies and organizations to postsecondary students.

  • Digest of Education Statistics 

  • IPEDS--Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System. "This is a search tool for selecting postsecondary education institutions based on criteria whose values you choose. You select Institutions by searching on their characteristics after choosing the survey you are interested in. This facility will give you the ability to browse the data on your screen and to download the selected records in delimited ASCII format."

    • REGINFO.GOV Link to the Code of Federal Regulations, the "Unified Agenda" and "Federal Regulatory Plan," the resource that acts as a calendar for regulatory reform planning. Maintained by the Regulatory Information Service Center, General Services Administration.

    • U.S. Government Manual The official description of Federal government agencies. Includes mission, officers, organization, major telephone numbers, and addresses. Provides a WAIS search--use keywords and CAPITALIZED boolean operators.
