Library Science and Information Services

Library Science and Information Services offers the only program in the State of Missouri with an emphasis on the education of school library media specialists. Plans are underway to offer courses in northwest Missouri due to a high demand for the program in that area.

The department offers two graduate degree programs which are accredited through the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education. The department also offers two undergraduate courses, one of which meets requirements for Central Missouri's general studies program.

The department generated a total of 2,692 credit hours this year. This reflects a 21 percent increase over academic year 1997-1998 and a 39 percent increase over 1996-1997. Approximately 76 percent of those credit hours were generated at the undergraduate level to fulfill general studies requirements. Twelve students completed graduate degrees.
