Professional Associations

American Communication Association - founded in 1993 this is a free virtual organization.  According to the association's web page, the organization is "committed to enabling the effective use of new and evolving technologies to facilitate communication instruction, research and criticism, and to offering a technologically supportive venue for all who study the ways in which humans communicate." (from the ACA page July 12, 2006).

International Communication Association - "an academic association for scholars interested in the study, teaching, and application of all aspects of human and mediated communication"  (from the ICA page July 12, 2006).

Public Relations Society of America - the worlds largest organization for public relations professionals  (from the PRSA page July 12, 2006).

National Communication Association - "the oldest and largest national organization to promote communication scholarship and education." (from the NCA page July 12, 2006).

American rhetoric :: provides access to various resources; includes the full transcribed text and often streaming audio of famous and important speeches

Book TV and Booknotes :: Presented by C-Span, Book TV has thousands of programs featuring talks by non-fiction authors, while Booknotes has hundreds of interviews with non-fiction authors.

Center for Nonverbal Studies :: private, nonprofit research center; located in Spokane, WA; the mission of the center is "to advance the study of human communication in all forms other than language"

History of televised Presidential debates :: sponsored by the Museum of Broadcast Communication (MBC) this siste includes 4 segments - first televised debate (Nixon/Kennedy) ; links to source material for each debate from 1960 to 2000; secondary source material for each of the debates; and a curriculum area for teachers
